Expert Panel on Cuba Yachting Speaks to Overflow Crowd

Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show – A standing-room only crowd attended the Destination Cuba panel yesterday to learn about yachting to, from and around Cuba; the legal aspects and permitting requirements; how the yachting world can participate in good environmental stewardship of the island nation; and commercial opportunities available now.  See link at bottom of page for an audio recording of the event.

The event was organized by the International Superyacht Society.

The event was sponsored by Royal Huisman, a family-owned custom yacht builder specializing in large yachts, from 30m (100ft) – 90m (300ft).

Simons Chase, Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of the Cuba Journal, moderated the panel.

The panel discussion speakers included:

Michael T. Moore is the Chairman of the Board of The International Seakeepers Society. He is also the Founder and Senior Partner of Moore & Company, a law firm specializing in Marine, Aviation and Art law.

Gerald Berton of CubaSeas.com is a well noted and highly experienced Yacht industry figure, and entrepreneur and a businessman who has been selling agricultural products to Cuba since 2008 and is well familiar with USA and Cuban regulations and activities.

Scott Wagner is the Vice Chair of the Admiralty Law Committee for the Florida Bar and has dedicated a portion of his practice at Moore & Company to navigating the regulatory requirements, pitfalls, and obligations of transiting people and cargo between the U.S. and Cuba by vessel.
