Here’s A Summary of U.S.-Cuba Diplomatic Progress After One Year

Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications for US President Barack Obama, said in an interview with Vice Media about Cuba, “For what ever reason, it’s easier to bomb another country than it is to engage another country.”

July 20th marks the completion of the first year of restored diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba. As it turns out, restoring relations between the US and Cuba is like annulling a divorce.

In the last year, the US and Cuba have expanded cooperation in areas such as the environment, transportation, agriculture, health, and law enforcement.

Numerous high-level US officials have visited Cuba to deepen relations, including President Obama, five cabinet secretaries, Members of Congress, governors, and mayors. Hundreds of representatives of US civil society, business, and religious communities have also visited. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are interacting with the Cuban people through educational and cultural exchanges for the first time.
