JetBlue Begins Flights to Camaguey, Cuba

JetBlue has expanded its flight network to Cuba with the launch of new service to Camaguey.

The first nonstop flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood to Camaguey touched down on Thursday, making it the second city served by JetBlue in Cuba since launching flights to Santa Clara in August.

“Camagüey is the latest move in our commitment to Cuba following our historic first flight in more than 50 years from the U.S. earlier this year,” said Robin Hayes, president and CEO, JetBlue. “With today’s inaugural flight to Camagüey, we bring low fares and our award winning service to yet another new market where customers have faced expensive and complicated service for too long.”

Camaguey, which is about 350 miles east of Havana, is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its historic center.

“We commend the work of both U.S. and Cuban officials for making today possible. We extend our deep appreciation to the Cuban Ministry of Transportation, IACC, and the Camagüey Airport for entrusting us to operate this route and look forward to our long-term partnership as we continue to grow our presence in Cuba,” said JetBlue CEO Hayes.

JetBlue flights include health insurance required by Cuba’s government for travelers to the island, along with day-of-travel Cuban tourist visas available at check-in.

Travelers still must qualify under one of the 12 licensed categories for legal travel to Cuba.
