A new level of cooperation in Cuba

Cuba and Russia have a series of agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in biotechnology.
Eulogio Pimentel, director general of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) for the business group BioCubaFarma, signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Alexander Chernov, Vice President of the Skolkovo Foundation.
“Now begins an arduous process to convert these memorandum contracts that allow us to make rapid progress in the development and marketing,” Pimentel said.
Pimentel said that while CIGB already has products registered in Russia and is conducting clinical trials and pilot studies in different regions of the nation, much more needs to be done.
This is the first time CIGB has signed agreements with companies in the Skolkovo Foundation.
The terms address product distribution, the co-development of technology, and the licensing of intellectual property.
“The agreements that we have signed are very pragmatic; it is not about money but about cooperation and strong, hard, productive work,” Chernov said.
