Cuba Could Host Major League Baseball Spring Training Games in 2016

When it comes to sports in Cuba, baseball is king.

But just what kind of impact the country’s nascent diplomatic ties with the US will mean for its baseball players and the country’s relationship with Major League Baseball has been murky: until now, according to SB Nation.

And now, Major League Baseball could be coming to Cuba: in the form of Spring Training Exhibition games.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said that MLB could hold spring training games in Cuba as early as next year.

“We’re very interested in Cuba,” Manfred said. “We’re having ongoing conversations with the federal government about what exactly our opportunities to expand our activity with Cuba is going to be going forward. I think the most likely, by no means determined — but the most likely scenario is you will see major league players in one form or another, playing in Cuba during the spring next year.”
