Last week, we named our inaugural Best Hotel in Havana 2015, the lovely Hotel Saratoga in Old Havana.
Now, we launch our newest award, the Cuban Resort of the Year, and the new Grand Memories Varadero rises to the top of the pack.
The resort, which first launched in April, has quickly become one of the tourism hub of Varadero’s top resorts, both on TripAdvisor and for its sheer design.
This is a modern-standard property that’s a welcome addition to a Varadero market in need of new hotel development.
Canadian firm Sunwing has brought the kind of all-inclusive you might find in all-inclusive centers like Punta Cana and Jamaica to Cuba, with everything from a cigar lounge to top-notch dining with an impressive collection of Spanish wine at its flagship restaurant, La Orquidea (make sure you go for the Varadero Lobster).
The 1,110-room-and-suite hotel is an adults-only oasis in Varadero.
But like any great resort in Cuba, it’s about the people, with terrific service and the constant feeling that you’re interacting and finding friendship with the Cuban people.
Oh, and the Wi-Fi is very good, too, another important fact when traveling to Cuba.
With a new tourism wave likely headed to the island, this hotel is a strong addition and sets a new kind of standard.
