Elevated Seismic Activity Continues in Cuba

cuba

Elevated seismic activity is continuing in Cuba, with earthquakes of over 4.0 magnitude on consecutive days this week, according to the United States Geological Survey.

There were two quakes on Monday, with one at 4.8 on the Richter scale; that quake, whose epicenter was south of Santiago de Cuba, caused weak shaking in the Guantanamo area.

An earlier quake of 4.4-magnitude also struck near Santiago de Cuba in Cuba’s south. There were no reports of damage or injuries, however.

The shaking came after several similar quakes in Cuba last week.

While Cuba is part of a wider Caribbean region that is seismically active, such quake activity is generally rare on the island, particularly in this kind of time concentration.
