Many embassies, including the landmark Russian embassy, are located in Miramar – in particular on Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), previously called Avenida de las Américas (Aveneue of the Americas).
Prior to the Revolution, Miramar was home to many of Havana’s exclusive residents. There remains many large houses and mansions that have been maintained and expanded. This district and the Country Club (Cubanacán) were among the most glamorous Havana hotspots in the 1950s.
In the late 1990s and 2000s, several office blocks were constructed called Centro de Negocios Miramar – the “Miramar Trade Center.”
This nearby church is worthy of a visit and is within walking distance from the hotel.
Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar (between 80 and 82 streets) was built in 1953 with a magnificent 5,000 pipes organ. The restored church features 14 splendid oversize paintings of the Stations of the Cross by Spanish artist César Hombrados Oñativa.
