House of Lies to Film in Cuba

According to a report in TV Guide, the series House of Lies has won the race to be the first American scripted show to shoot in Cuba since the restoration of diplomatic relations last summer that ended more than 50 years of animosity.

The fifth season episode, set to take place in and around Havana, will air in 2016. Kaan, played by Don Cheadle, is looking to go from mogul to big dog global alpha male in a power move that lands him and his pod of associates – Jeannie (Kristen Bell), Clyde (Ben Schwartz) and Doug (Josh Lawson) – in Havana.

In a press release, Cheadle says, “This historic trip to Cuba is definitely Kaan & Associates’ biggest and wildest adventure yet. It’s sure to be one for the record books, for both our characters and for our cast and crew.”

Cuba appears to be attracting ever greater interest from film and television projects hoping to exploit the country’s unique tropical setting and elegant decay. Fast and Furious 8 director F. Gary Grey recently traveled to Cuba to scout locations.  According to reports, the production has made applications with the US and Cuban governments for permission to shoot on location in Cuba.
