US mobile firm Sprint has signed a direct roaming agreement with the Telecommunications Company of Cuba.

That makes the company the first US wireless carrier to sign such a deal with ETECSA, it said.

“As the commercial relationship between the U.S. and Cuba continues to progress, it is expected that the number of travelers to Cuba will increase exponentially,’ said Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure. “We want to make sure any Sprint customer traveling to Cuba can use their phone the same way as they do in the United States.”

The move comes after Verizon launched roaming in Cuba.

Claure made the announcement during a signing ceremony in Havana on Monday with the .S.-Cuba Business Council (USCBC) delegation to Cuba.

Sprint offers direct long distance and direct roaming.

Sprint did not reveal how much the roaming rates would be.
