VIDEO: Barack Obama’s Phone Call With Cuba’s Top Comedian

Ahead of his historic visit to Cuba on Sunday, United States President Barack Obama took time to speak (and speak in Spanish) with Pánfilo, perhaps the most famous comedic character in Cuba.

Pánfilo, who is played by Luis Silva, has long performed a television skit in which he gets calls from Obama; this was, of course, the first time the call was actually with the President himself.

The show is considered one of Cuba’s most popular shows, seen each week by about two-thirds of the Cuban people.

“The American people and the Cuban people are friends,” Obama says in the skit, which can be seen below in a video from the Cuban Embassy in the US.
