Santiago de Cuba is showing significant tourism growth so far this year, Cuba’s tourism officials said this week.

The country’s Second City market is reporting a 20 percent growth in tourist arrivals over the same period in 2014, with more growth projected as the tourist season begins in earnest.

The increase has been driven largely by tourists from Canada, Germany and France, the Ministry of Tourism.

Canadian tour operators Hola Sun and Sunwing operate weekly flights from Toronto and Montreal, respectively.

The market currently has 17 hotels, along with the newly opened Punta Gorda hotel (above).

It’s also seen some peripheral additions, from a new cigar bar at the Melia hotel to a craft brewery on Paseo La Alameda.
